Initiatives

A number of initiatives are planned, which reaffirm some of the major characteristics of an Oundle education, and which reflect some of our visions for the future.

SciTec: It is fitting that the construction starts in 2006. To mark the project, 2006 will see a new category of awards called ‘SciTec 450 Scholarships’. Also, pupils and staff in Community Action will drive forward an Environment Policy in sympathy with SciTec’s Green Theme.

Partnership with the Thomas Deacon Academy: The new Academy in Peterborough will open in September 2007. The year 2006 will see collaborative work between Oundle and the Academy in preparation for its opening.

UK/Russia Annual Maths Camp: Planning is in place for a series of Mathematics camps operated jointly by Oundle and School 1239 (previously known as School 20) in Moscow.

Oundle 450 History of Science Lessons: One lesson for each 50 years in Oundle’s history with concluding essay competition: 1550 Copernicus/Kepler/Descartes; 1606 Galileo; 1656 Huygens/Harvey; 1706 Isaac Newton; 1756 Joseph Priestley/Henry Cavendish; 1806 John Dalton; 1856 Charles Darwin/Mendeleev; 1906 Albert Einstein; 1956 The Hydrogen bomb/DNA structure; 2006 Decoding of the Human Genome. Annual Prize for International Awareness: After Oundle’s first International Fair in 2005, and other progress in this area, from 2006 an annual prize will be awarded to a pupil who has made a significant contribution in furthering international awareness and understanding.

Charity Fund Raising: Oundle 450 fundraising will be for a specific charity, The Children's Trust. As well as raising funds, Oundle pupils would have the opportunity to provide therapeutic stimulation by playing music to children in residential care.
